I have a TV show idea…

It’s The Wonder Years + The West Wing + The Queen: a one hour show about the royal family from the perspective of the teenage prince. He’s going through puberty in the public eye with restrictions on who he can date and what he can do. And when he questions and challenges his parents, he’s questioning and challenging the institution on which his country is based.

Imagine going to History class in school and seeing all the devastating (and honorable) things your family are responsible for. How hard it would be to get straight answers to all the questions you’ve got growing up. The fucked up relationship you’d have with your family members who are all trapped in failed/damaging relationships due to a sense of national/familial obligation. How because of your blood you have no choice in anything, but still kinda live the life of a rock star. What if you turned out gay? How would this 1000 year old tradition deal with that/cover that up? It’s the awkwardness of growing up but everything is heightened.

It could be loosely based on William or Harry and the current Monarchy dynamic, the way President Bartlett was based on President Clinton. And if it is based on Harry, then there’ll be an awesome season three finale ep where a paternity test reveals his real father is his mother’s male mistress (mistro?). He’s not even a royal after all! TWIST.
